Today at 9am, myself, Alex, Tovah, & Ani waited in BSB 334 for our students to arrive. Eventually all eight rolled in, some looking more enthusiastic than others. Today was the first day of the Whispering Woods Phase II project, aka. 50:070:386 “Doing Archaeology in South Jersey”. Today students got a crash course in CRM archaeology, artifacts, mapping, and, of course, how to do archaeology. After three hours of information dump, some of us were looking a little worse for the wear while others were ready to bound into the field, trowel in hand.
Tomorrow, Alex, Tovah, Ani & I are going to the site to create the site map with a total station and assemble our “shed-in-a-box” to store field equipment. As extra credit, students were invited to come along to learn more about this vital piece of equipment. Sam and Theresa are keen. Will any of the others show up? How long will it take considering this is a model of total station that none of us have used before? Will we be caught in a thunder storm? STAY TUNED!
